For the first time ever, Sundance By Basecamp is staying open through the snow season—and we’re ready to welcome you for a different kind of winter escape. From October 16 through May 15, guests can book stays every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. During the holidays, we’ll be open daily from December 18 to January 3—because what’s more festive than snow-covered trails and fireside stories?

This is your chance to experience the magic of Kananaskis Country in winter: slower mornings, crisp air, and off-grid moments that bring you back to what matters most.

A Winter-Ready Glamping Experience

Our canvas tents are fully prepped for cold-weather comfort. Family Glamping Tents & Deluxe Glamping Tents are now equipped with propane heaters in addition to wood-burning stoves, while our standard Glamping Tents feature propane heat and backup units in case the temperature dips.

Planning to cozy up extra hard? Additional blankets are available to rent.

Things to Do This Winter in Kananaskis and Canmore

Winter in Kananaskis doesn’t slow things down—it opens up a whole new kind of adventure. From snow-covered trails to alpine tours, here are a few favourite ways to stay active and inspired during your stay at Sundance this winter.

Start with a pair of snowshoes and hit the trails right from the region’s many scenic access points. If you don’t have your own, you’ll find snowshoe rentals in Canmore at Gear Up Sports or through local tour providers in Kananaskis Village. The terrain around Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and Troll Falls makes snowshoeing accessible even for beginners, with big winter views as your reward.

For those who prefer to glide, cross-country skiing is a local favourite. The groomed tracks at Mount Shark are legendary, and rentals are available from Trail Sports at the Canmore Nordic Centre—they’ll set you up with skis, boots, and poles, whether you’re a classic or skate-style skier. And if downhill is more your speed, Nakiska is just around the corner, offering family-friendly slopes, lessons, and stunning views over Kananaskis.

Want to swap your hiking boots for two wheels? Fat biking offers a new way to explore the winter landscape. With oversized tires built for packed snow, fat bikes are available for rent in Canmore and are perfect for mellow terrain like the Bow Valley trails or the High Rockies route.

If you’re looking to level up your adventure, Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours in Canmore offers half-day and full-day dog sledding experiences. Ride through forested trails behind a team of enthusiastic huskies—it’s an experience that sticks with you.

And for a view you won’t get from any trail, Alpine Helicopters in Canmore offers scenic heli-tours year-round. Take in a bird’s-eye view of snow-covered peaks, frozen lakes, and untouched alpine valleys—all from the sky.

Back at Sundance, you can wind down beside a fire or under the stars, knowing the next day could hold just as much magic.

Know Before You Go

We’re currently finalizing our minimum temperature policy and winter-specific cancellation guidelines. Until then, winter bookings are open as usual—and we’ll always prioritize your comfort and safety.

Wondering about park access? Yes, all guests visiting Sundance and the surrounding area must purchase a valid daily or yearly Kananaskis Conservation Pass. These are required by local regulations to support conservation efforts and trail maintenance. Passes are not included in our rates and must be purchased in advance online or at designated kiosks. Vehicles without a pass may be subject to fines.

Facilities & Amenities

Bathrooms and showers in the main building will remain open throughout the season. Family Tents will still have access to their private outhouses, and campground outhouses will also be operational—so you won’t need to head to the Trading Post when nature calls.

This is the first winter Sundance has ever stayed open—and you can be part of it. If you’ve stayed with us before, you already know the magic of unplugging under a star-filled sky. Now, imagine that moment wrapped in a blanket, with fresh snow crunching underfoot and your campfire crackling nearby.
